Agri Crops and Dr. Samran Sombatpanit

Below are some photos from the facebook wall of Dr. Samran Sombatpanit, a good friend in farming who hosted me and my family for two days in Thailand in mid-2010. Doc Samran is the Past President of the World Association for Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC).

The other photos I took from his friends' photos. I am fascinated by this coconut tree. So short and yet produces so many coconuts.

There are three advantages for this variety. One is that harvesting the nuts are easy; two, it is relatively safe from being toppled by strong typhoons and winds; and three, no threat of falling nuts on houses during heavy winds.

I think this nut needs lots of fertilizers to sustain such a huge output.

Huge and bountiful "kamoteng kahoy", cool.

Bamboo shoots, they are a delicacy for many rural folks. My favorite is when it chopped shoots are  mixed with coconut milk plus other leafy vegetables plus shrimps and served hot, awww!

Cabbage, on slightly sloping farm land.
