Controlled and occasional burning of forest floor
Belated post of photos, taken last December 02, 2018.
After -- clearer and safer forest floor. My treehouse in the background.
Composting of dried leaves is also done. See the row of stones that act as barriers vs erosion during heavy rains, trapping organic matter. Some peeled snake skin can be seen occasionally in the area.
Many environmentalists will oppose if not condemn these
-- controlled burning of forest floor, cutting excess small trees. This is
necessary to: (1) reduce organic fuel during occasional forest fire, (2)
reduce breeding ground for crawler insects, which are hunted by small snakes,
frogs, rats, which are hunted by bigger snakes, which are dangerous to humans. And (3) smoke out a colony of small ants and termites attacking my treehouse.

The huge California fires late last year was partly caused by too much environmentalism -- people opposing controlled burning of portions of forest floor, opposing the harvest of dead, diseased, and over mature trees by logging and timber companies. Diseased trees should be cut and removed to prevent the spread of disease to other trees, that kill many trees, that become huge fuel during forest fire.
